Are we living in a David Lynch film?
Exploring Pisces Season through film & fantasy ๐๏ธ๐
This week I watched the Netflix special Apple Cider Vinegar (so good) and it really had me thinking about misinformation and just how much disillusionment exists in our society. And also our collective trauma response to a patriarchal and capitalistic society. As a recovering codependent that has dated narcissists (and was raised by them), itโs also so interesting to see how we have elected them to power, or put them on a pedestal - Like Anna Delvy walking runway shows or a murderer being made into โHero Memesโ. However, one thing I love about astrology, is that it reminds me transits come and go and it gives me the perspective to look back and see how our human family has dealt with (and thrived despite) the current conditions. I wrote about my personal experience with the cyclical process of healing last week, and it comforts me to know the same applies to societal issues. It feels like we are moving backwards, but sometimes, thatโs the exact thing needed in order to break a cycle. So I continue to hopeโฆ.
On February 18th, the Sun moves into Pisces, and over the next 30 days the Solar cycle through all twelve signs will be complete. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, and is said to contain a bit of wisdom from each of the signs. The next 30 days are the โend of yearโ time in astrology, a great time to reflect on the themes and lessons weโve learned over the last 12 months and to think about what we want to blossom in the spring. And believe me, this spring is going to be off the chain with transits - we are in for a wild ride! ๐ข
I also expect this Pisces season to be quite impactful, as we have a heavy concentration of planets in this sign, all finishing up their transits in the final degrees - critical points that wrap of the themes of not just the sign on itโs own, but of the entire quality of time of their ingress - itโs a time of major endings and new beginnings - a time ripe with possibility and shifts.
So, letโs break it down! When it comes to astrology, there are several things we are looking it:
The Sign - the season we are in sets the tone of the month, just like the backdrop in a movie - the scene, the vibe, the mood.
The sign of this month is Pisces -a water sign ruled by Neptune - itโs creative, spiritual, deeply intuitive, emotional and very much fantastical. Think of the tone in films by David Lynch, Wes Anderson, A24 films, Miyazaki and Terry Gilliam.
The Planets - the planets are going to be the characters in the film, each one has unique characteristics that they bring to the plot. Each one has strengths and weaknesses. Each one will work differently with the sign.
The Aspects - the aspects are how the planets (characters) relate to one another. There are difficult aspects that create tension and opposition and harmonious aspects that bring ease. No aspects are good or bad - just like in all relationships, we have conflict and tension, even the most loving and supportive relationships still require comprise, communication and negotiation. As we know, most good films have a good deal of conflict, irony and challenge, if itโs too idilic or perfect, we would get bored and there would be no plot!
The sign: Pisces - the fantastical sci-fi movie
Pisces energy is like a great sci-fi film or psychological thriller. There is an element of question between fantasy and reality, it takes us into the unknown, into the areas that can only be imagined - whether they are dreams or nightmares is up to us.
Working with Piscean energy is best done when in a creative flow, lost in a project and time loses it grip on us. Those few seconds of our meditation when the thoughts finally quiet and we feel a sense of peace and weightlessness. When we lean into our spiritual practice to help us find more hope and faith. When we believe in things we cannot see and find support from our guides, guardians, angels and ancestors, etc.
The detriment of this sign happens when we lose touch with reality and become disillusioned and escape to fantasy. Whether we are lost in an online rabbit hole, escaping with drugs and alcohol, making everything into a conspiracy theory or lost out to sea on the life raft of disassociation - we have lost the plot. We might also feel overwhelmed by our emotions and unable to ground ourselves in the present moment. Or we let one little thought spin into a crazy storyโฆ..We are feeling insecure and see our partner texting with someone and get suspicious, then spin a whole tale of who they are texting - are they cheating? lying? We head off into our own delusions.
The antidote to this untethered space is to find a bit of earth and connect with the physical. Be present, hug a tree, unplug, take a cold plunge, etc. We must know how to set boundaries around our fantasies, and have the tools that anchor us back to what is real in the moment.
In this increasingly technological world, I often marvel at how disillusioned we can be. It seems no matter what you believe, you can find a whole host of information to back it up. Not only that, but now algorithms will continue to push you more information to further your claims. We all live in a different reality and our phones reinforce our beliefs, whether you are a democrat, republicans or q-anon conspiracy theorist, all the information you consume will back up your claim. You can live in your own online bubble! My hope is that Pluto in Aquarius will help us to regulate online information over the next 20 years and also help us find a healthier way to connect with technology, especially knowing how much it anxiety it causes in our youth.
And yet the current news cycle is enough to take us all out to sea if we let it. So itโs more important than ever to have those boundaries, tools and tricks up your sleeve when you feel a bit hopeless or overwhelmed. This month especially, make sure to give yourself time to ground, unplug and be present with yourself and people you love. It will make a world of difference.
The Characters:
The Sun -Main Character energy- illumination and clarity๐
The Sun in Pisces(Feb 18 - March 20) brings a spotlight on all the themes above - itโs what dictates the astrological โseasonโ and where our dominant attention lies. The Sun in Pisces wants you to live a fantasy and tap into your most creative and spiritual self. Donโt focus on the details, just feel your way though it.
Mercury - The Trickster- the messenger - communication, technology ๐
Mercury in Pisces (Feb 14- Mar 3) brings a certain retrograde-y energy to the party. Mercury doesnโt love being in this sign because it waters down the message and misconstrues the plot. Remember that not all communication requires language - let your feelings, your aura, your art/poetry/music and your vibe speak for you.
Saturn - The Mentor - authority, boundaries, maturity, hard lessons โฐ๏ธ
Saturn in Pisces (Mar 2023 - May 2025) - Saturn stays in a sign for approximately 2.5-3 years - asking us to grow up in whatever area of our chart Pisces rules. This is a tough aspect because Saturn likes rules, structure and boundaries and Pisces literally dissolves boundaries. But the good news is that Saturn has been helping us mature in the places where we tend to feel a bit confused, chaotic or formless. Saturn in Pisces is like a much needed cup of coffee after a night of drinking, helping us sober up and get clear.
North Node - The Explorer - our hunger, adventure, where we want to go ๐
North node in Pisces (Jan 2025- July 2026) will show us what areas we are hungry for or what we need in relation to Piscean themes. North Node in Pisces wants to show you how deep you really are - remember you contain multitudes - you never have to be just one thing.
Neptune - The Sage -wisdom, spirituality, intuition, fantasy, illusion, creativity ๐ง๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Neptune in Pisces (April 2011 - 2026) has been teaching us lessons about the Pisces themes mentioned above for over a decade. Next month, this planet will finally shift into Aries, but will retrograde back to Pisces and not leave for good until 2026. Neptune hovering over the last critical degree in Pisces will really bring the major life lessons of this transit to a head. This is a great time to reflect on your life since 2011 and how these themes have played out. Check what house is associated with Pisces in your chart to see what aspect of your life has been affected. EX: Pisces is my 6th house of work and daily life and in 2011, I began a deep spiritual journey learning reiki, tarot, and somatic therapy, I made this my primary career over the past 15 years.
The Aspects:
There are astrological aspects that occur everyday in astrology, but these are the biggest events that will take place during Pisces season.
Mars Direct (Feb 23) - if youโve been feeling sluggish since December, expect the energy to FINALLY pick up! Mars stations direct on Feb 23rd and clears its shadow March 8th - giving us the green light to move forward on projects that have been stalled or slow.
Venus RX (March 1-April 12) - the planet of love and money has been in fiery Aries bringing some heat and passion to our lives, but on March 1st, it will station retrograde in Aries, then go back to Pisces, asking us to review any imbalances in our finances or relationships, especially our own sense of confidence and authority.
Saturn Cazimi (March 12) - Saturn & the Sun have a meet cute in Pisces. If you can, schedule a creative or spiritual endeavor on this day - it will be extra illuminating!!
Lunar Eclipse in Virgo (March 14) - Eclipse season begins! Major shifts and developments in the area of your chart that contains Virgo - get clear on the details, habits and daily chores in your life. This may be a time you want to make work changes, or switch up the way you spend your time, routines or wellness habits.
Mercury Rx (March 14) - Also this day, Mercury (the planet that rules Virgo) - stations retrograde. So the 2 weeks at the end of March may feel a bit out of routine, either slower communications, tech glitches or a time when you are literally changing up the way you work, communicate or who you communicate with. This is a time to really go with the flow, donโt try to control every detail - as my grandma used to say, โlet Jesus take the wheelโ.
