Virgo Season
Mercury stations direct, Eclipse season begins, Venus & Mars aspect the Nodes! Detailed horoscopes for your sign with tarot guidance.
Virgo season begins August 22nd - the end of summer in the east coast of US, when the coolness in the air starts to creep in at night. Here in New York, the kids are prepping to go back to school, back to the structure and routine Virgo energy is known for. Virgo is mutable earth - both solid, steady, and structured but also adaptable and changeable, which I aways think of as so magical about Virgo energy. Virgo is the alchemist, the green witch or kitchen witch - using the earthly elements to whip up something new and exciting.
Virgo excels as giving us a sense of daily structure or framework, so that we can feel safe to take more risks within it. It helps us to feel strong, steady and to trust the flow of our day to day lives. The Virgo symbol is that of the Virgin and is associated with purification - what health or spiritual practices help you to detox unhealthy elements from your life?
This Virgo season has a mix of planetary alignments, with Venus transiting through Libra (along with several asteroids), Mercury stationing direct in Leo, Pluto re-entering Capricorn and the first eclipse in the opposing sign of Pisces.
There will be a strong focus on relationships this month, how we can better balance the art of give and receive, and what structures, routines and foundational work we need to feel grounded, safe and at ease in our relationships. This might be a great time to revisit your attachment styles, have weekly check-ins with your partners, kids or business associates and focus on clear communication, what’s working, what isn’t and come up with strategies and problem solving by being open, curious and adaptable.
Virgo is an earth sign ruled by Mercury, which will be transiting Leo all month long, so we can also pay attention to the Leo ruled area of our chart, and themes around being seen, being authentic and vulnerable - especially in our close relationships. I think clear communication will be imperative this month, as well as lots of time for inward reflection.
The tarot card associated with Virgo is The Hermit, which is about isolation and going inward to connect with our intuition and sense of self. Taking time for meditation and self reflection will help us put our best foot forward in our collaborations. Sometimes we need to communicate from the heart, not just from the head, which this season can help us balance both emotion and logic.
Another card I associated with Virgo is the Page of Pentacles - a young, curious energy that often relates to a new job, career or opportunity. The Page in tarot is similar to an Ace- a new start, an open mind or the beginner’s mind - willing to explore and open to change or new routes. To embody the Page is to plant a seed, to connect to the body, to be present in the moment and contemplate various outcomes.
The planet Mercury, the ruler of Virgo is associated with The Magician, the one who channels energy from the astral to the material plane. This is card one in the Major Arcana, an initiatory energy, ready to take action. He has all the elements on the table in front of him - all the tools as his disposal. To embody The Magician is to channel the current zeitgeist, to connect with your higher self or higher power, to let the energy you feel flow uninterrupted without doubt, to take a risk and go for it.
Here are a few suggested themes / rituals for Virgo season:
Health & Wellness - prioritize diet, exercise and sleep
Book your Appointments- dentist, doctors, acupuncture, massage, etc.
Plan- get your calendar in order or start a new journal like the Panda Journal or Focus Planner to get really intentional about your time
Organize - Whether it’s your closet, your desk, your finances or your pantry- what project can you tackle this month? I am working on a new spreadsheet for my finances and creating a Family Binder with all the information my partner and I need for our household - tax forms, insurance cards, passports, bills and finances - it’s a big project and perfect for Virgo season!
Practical Magic - little rituals that make you feel good, coffee and journaling in the morning, lighting a candle at night, taking a bath, making a beautiful altar, cooking something special or having a cup of your favorite tea - what rituals make your day feel special?
Relationship Checkins - whether it’s a date night, a therapy appointment, a daily walk together or a Monday morning meeting - check in with your partnerships this month. My partner and I do “financial Fridays” where we say gratitudes to each other, then discuss the finances, and the chores and upkeep we need to do to make the week run smoothly
Hermit Activities - what are you favorite solo activities? Where you are truly unplugged and present with yourself? It’s so easy to default to the phone when we have downtime these days, but i would challenge yourself to make regular scheduled times in your week or day for unplugged alone time - for me this is usually in the form of a walk without my phone or a restorative yoga / meditation practice. Even just five minutes a day can make a big difference.
