New Moon Blessings! The new moon of September is at 11° Virgo and occurs Sept 2nd at 9:55pm EST. This is the start of a new lunar cycle, the planting of a seed, a time of manifestation and magic.
Virgo is mutable earth energy - The Magician, the green witch, the alchemist. So I ask you, before we head into the volatile energy of eclipse season in a few weeks, what would you like to manifest? Virgo gives us both the stability and discipline of earth energy and the shape shifting mutable energy to make it happen.
Think back six months ago, to the full moon in Virgo, February 24th, 2024- what were you completing, working on, celebrating at that time? This new moon will have similar themes and the lessons we were learning back then can help inform our choices now.
I’m not going to lie - February 2024 was a rough month for me. It was full of confusion and anxiety- I was totally stressed out and overworked, studying for my Series 7 exam in every spare moment. And although I did pass the exam, I also had some really confusing health issues that I couldn’t figure out and was at the doctor getting different tests every week. I was also processing some deep emotional stuff that came up after my engagement, or should I say, my body was trying to process it, but I was too busy to tune in. By the end of the month, I realized that the majority of the health stuff I was experiencing was due to stress, tension and hormonal shifts (and also some much deeper motherhood/ birth trauma) but I’m not going too deep into that here. But you if are a mother and need some (non medical) support - I have some lovely suggestions, just comment below or respond to this email!
By the end of February, I had passed my test and was doing regular acupuncture sessions, starting a new strength training program, doing a cleanse and getting serious about processing some of the emotional stuff I pushed down to study. And funny enough, as I type this, I’ve been experiencing some of those symptoms I had back in February! But this time, I’m not freaking out- because I have the wisdom and learned experience to handle it. Instead, I’m taking extra time to tune in to my body, doing more somatic movement, journaling my emotions and listening to RAIN meditations with Tara Brach so I can meet what’s coming up with compassion, instead of fear, control and a desperate need to fix myself (I’m not broken). And because I’ve been doing a strength program for a full six months, I can see so much progress in my body! I am stronger than I’ve felt since having my daughter eight years ago and I’ve released a ton of tension (and pain). So this new moon, I’m going to celebrate this win and the hard work and discipline it took to get there - and I encourage you to do the same!
Since February 2024- what have you been working on? What have you accomplished? Even if it’s not perfect or completed, celebrate it! Take yourself out for a treat or share your progress with a friend, loved one, or share it here by commenting and I will celebrate with you!
Let’s take a look at the new moon chart:
I am happy to say that, in comparison to the last few moon cycles, this new moon chart is relatively chill! There is only one tense aspect, which is an opposition to Saturn in Pisces. Whenever we are in a sun sign, we are always learning and applying the themes of that sign through its opposing energy. So while Virgo gives us structure, organization and day to day life routines, Pisces gives us big picture, spirituality and a connection to universal themes. They balance each other out - too much Virgo and we are dull and mundane, too much Pisces and we are delulu. How we balance our work, health, chores and everyday life with our dreams, creativity and imagination.
Sun and Moon in Virgo wants to know what you are doing to organize your life and make healthy choices and ground yourself into a structure that serves you. It wants to serve as the foundation for your bigger dreams and ideals. Saturn also brings boundaries and structure, and it teaches us responsibility. This configuration is helping us to build upon the foundations we’ve been setting up over the past six months. We’ve done the ground work, we have experience, now we have capacity to hold more, to push it further, to get the walls and the roof up.
This is where I find astrology to be really useful and interesting - when we can look back and reflect and see the connections between the past and the present. We see the patterns and the themes that show up again and again, and use that information to create positive changes. I don’t love trying to “predict” my future with astrology because that’s a recipe for disaster - my ego will kick in and look for all the negative possibilities. But when I just live my life, trust the process and use astrology as a tool to reflect and notice the cycles, I gain so much insight!
The last thing I want to note for this new moon chart is that Pluto is shifting back into Capricorn and is making a sextile with Neptune in Pisces. This is a harmonious aspect that can help us feel more power and autonomy in regards to our emotions and creativity. With Mars also squaring Neptune, there is an aspect of wanting to apply our energy to it, we are working out this tension between fantasy and reality. I’m also thinking of this on a greater scale and how much our thoughts are shaped by media - so much of what we see is pushed to us through an algorithm that is created to serve us things it knows we like - but it’s completely out of context. There is so much misinformation and fantasy, and now with AI it feels even more confusing what is real and what is not.
With the upcoming election we will see so much “information” and so many opinions and pressure to pick a side, and the division will seem so stark. Are we aligning so fully with our ideals that we have forgotten how to hold polarity? Can we believe that everyone, deep down, wants the same thing- to feel safe? Do we have the capacity to listen to another with curiosity- even if their beliefs or perspectives differ from ours? I truly hope so, and I hope we can contemplate these questions and see beyond the many illusions presented to us on a daily basis. This is a time for discernment and real human connections, not virtue signaling and performative activism that is rampant in our culture.
Now I am super excited to share my interview with Grant Emerson! Grant is the bass player for the band Delta Rae, a software engineer, an avid runner, a father of two amazing boys and husband to one of my besties! He also just happens to have his Sun, Mercury and Venus in Virgo! In the interview we discuss:
Grant & I working out past life karma (and how the astrology lines up)
Grant’s natal chart and how he experiences all that Virgo energy
Chiron in the 4th house and the mother wound
Leo Moon & 10th House Sagittarius and how it applies to his work as a musician
Mid - life crisis transits and the crazy thing he’s doing for his 40th birthday
Pisces rising and his relationship to creativity
Saturn in the 5th house and becoming a parent
How Grant uses “organized chaos” as a way to cope with his own mental tendencies
SO MUCH MORE!!!
Unfortunately, the video quality on this interview is low - not terrible, but not great! I apologize! If you want to see our lovely faces and the imagery of the charts, you can watch the video here:
If you have no interest in seeing the charts or just want to listen as you drive or cook or do other things, I’m including the audio only version of our conversation.
Either way, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it for you- I really love listening to others stories and learning more about astrology through unique experiences! We have Libra season coming up and I have a Libra Stellium but I feel like I talk about my own chart all the time - so if you or someone you know has a Libra stellium and would like to be featured, please reach out!
