On May 25th, the great benefic, Jupiter, changed signs. Jupiter takes one full year to move through each sign and for the past year, it has been exaggerating themes in the area of your chart that contains Taurus. Taurus themes are related to money, resources, physical health and food (diet, food production, industry, etc.). Known as the bull, Taurus energy is slow and stubborn, it likes to dig it’s heels into an issue, so Jupiter in Taurus could have felt this way for you, a bit boring and testing your patience. It could also have exaggerated the above themes, or brought blessings of abundance, maybe in the form of grants, loans, raises or perhaps helping you see where you need to to create a bit more security for yourself in a tangible way.
As one of the biggest planets, Jupiter is said to expand the themes in your life that it touches. For example, I have the 8th House in Taurus, which governs themes of grief, debts, shared resources and investments, death, unconscious emotions, psychology and the occult. In 2012 when Jupiter transited this area of my chart - I started seeing a therapist as I was coping with intense grief after the death of my brother, which started a major healing chapter in my life. I am so grateful for the profound shifts that occurred in the decade that followed working with her. Then over the past year, Jupiter transited my 8th house again, and the focus was primarily on shared resources and finances. My partner and I hired a financial coach to help us work through some emotional stuff that was preventing us from collaborating well with our resources. I also started working for a financial firm and paying off lots of old debts (as well as being presented with new financial challenges). Jupiter helps us to find optimism, to search for meaning and to instill a sense of faith and hope. For me, I finally felt like I had more autonomy and freedom in my finances and it helped me to rise above the day to day and see the situation from a higher mind so I could make real and lasting change.
Now, with Jupiter in Gemini, we shift into an air sign, so we may feel a bit lighter, a bit more intellectual, social and dynamic. The symbol for Gemini is the twins, and it’s known as “the communicator”. We may feel a big burst of energy in our social life, how we connect with others, our close relationships (especially with siblings, cousins or local community) and even in areas like writing, publishing, podcasting, social media, etc. Gemini also loves to learn, and many of the Gemini’s I know can take in a lot of information! I’m often in awe of how they can scour the internet for hours, read a million books at once or create 100 Pinterest boards! This year you might find yourself really interested in learning a lot about a new topic, taking courses, or maybe your career is taking you down a road of information or into a new position that requires additional skill development and correspondences. This is a time when we can bring intention to how we want to expand our knowledge and connections over the coming months.
Jupiter rules the sign of Sagittarius, so anyone with placements in a mutable sign (Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo, Pisces) will feel this transit strongly. I think we will all feel the shift, no matter if we have planets in those signs or not, but you can check your chart to see any planets or aspects/ transits happening here. Taurus is a fixed sign, so moving into a mutable sign we may feel a lot more movement, a bit more ease and flow and in general just a bit more fun!
If you want to know what this all means for you, we can look to your rising sign to see what area of your chart Jupiter will transit over the next year. If you are not sure, you can find your ascendent, or rising sign by looking up your birth chart. You will need your date, time and location of birth. I like to use astro.com and on your chart, you will see “AC” in the sign of your ascendant. You can also take note of any planets in the mutable signs. Below, I will explain what themes will be most prevalent during Jupiter in Gemini according to your rising sign.
