Capricorn Full Moon

Take full advantage of having TWO full moons in one season! 🌕

The second full moon of Cancer season occurs on Sunday, July 21st at 6:16am EST. Once per year, there will be TWO full moons in a season and this year, it’s in Capricorn. This potent shift in energy is a chance for big change and release.

This full moon occurs at the final degree, or 29th° of Capricorn, which is associated with a completing a major phase or cycle, and also shows something we have mastered really well and may feel called to teach or share the lesson with others. In addition, this degree is also associated with a sense of urgency, so we may feel an intense need to make a sudden change or we are finally at a breaking point after much deliberation and are ready to finally take action.

This full moon is also trine Neptune at 29° Pisces, which is a positive aspect that brings harmonious flow between the planet of dreams, fantasies, and spirituality with moon in Capricorn. So there is something coming together around our bigger goals and ambitions and how they align with our fantasies. I’ve spoken about this earlier but it bears repeating because this Cancer season really wants us to figure out how to bring our dreams into reality. How to align with our purpose and redefine success on our terms. Is it about money, recognition, awards? These are Capricorn themes, but we can also add in our fantasies - maybe we want to travel, collaborate with people or companies we admire, or just have better work / life balance and extensive benefits. You get to decide what success means to you and release the patterns that keep them feeling off limits.

We also see the Moon in a trine with Mars in Gemini, so here we are pulling in themes around communication, collaboration and maybe how we project ourselves out into our community through speaking, writing or sharing our stories. This could also highlight themes around our friends, neighbors and close relationships, so this could be a very social time or just feel like we have a lot of obligations in this area.

There is yet another positive aspect of the Sun sextile Uranus in Taurus which may further encourage us to make a big change! Uranus wants to disrupt old patterns and has been in Taurus since 2018 so there is nothing new here, but when it makes an aspect with a full moon, it pulls focus. So there could be a change you have been planning and finally ready to make in the Taurus ruled area of your chart, disrupting something around the way you work or the value you put on your work, chores, efforts.

Lastly, there is one challenging aspect which is that this full moon is opposite Pluto in Aquarius. Challenging aspects are not to be feared, but rather are the moments that help us move forward through some tension. Pluto shows us the unconscious and helps us to reclaim our power from places we might have felt constricted or bound to authority. Even in an opposition, a Pluto aspect brings a theme of transformation, of renewal and rebirth - so even though there might be some kind of power struggle, we come out learning where and how to stand up for ourselves.

The tarot card associated with Capricorn is The Devil, which is one of the “scary cards” but as we know, life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies - this is the juicy stuff that helps us heal. In readings, I usually see The Devil as:

• healing codependent patterns

• examining our relationship to money and the material

• how we define success

• any patterns we want to break that have felt addictive, unnecessary or imbalanced

• What area of our life we want more freedom

In the image we see a couple in shackles at the devil’s feet. But upon further inspection we see the chains are quite loose. We just need to make the conscious effort to take them off, day after day. This isn’t the unconscious stuff of The Moon card, it’s the habits we know we are taking part in. Whether it’s a relationship with toxic patterning or over consumption of socials, shopping, sugar - we are aware of the pattern and just haven’t committed to put a boundary in place. This is the time. Now is the time to take that power back and finally make a change.

As I spoke about earlier in the month during the first full moon in Capricorn, I recently quit my job in finance. I went in for the money, the stability, the promise of never having to worry about this area after a tumultuous few years. But there was so much codependency still wrapped up in it. I was giving too much and not getting enough back. Not enough money (but that would still come) but enough time, freedom, emotional / spiritual fulfillment. I felt like such a failure at money, I made so many mistakes in my past that seemed obvious to other people. I am really smart but I felt so ashamed of how “stupid” my choices were. I thought this job would right all my wrongs and help me help others in the same position. But really I just needed to let myself off the hook and forgive my past. We don’t use our logic brain when we are in a trauma/ survival pattern, we revert back to younger versions of self and act on impulse. I wasn’t stupid, I was just in very deep and long held pattern and often the way we see it is to GO DEEPER into it! This is the deep shift this Capricorn full moon offers us - to clear and release old patterns that have been so ingrained - ancestral patterns and even past life and karmic patterns are ready to be broken.

Work with this full moon to cleanse, clear, renew and rebirth yourself. It won’t happen all in one day, but this moon will show us the next step, and the one after that - we just have to dig deep and embrace our intuition and follow the path. I can’t tell you what’s next because astrology isn’t about being certain of an outcome, it’s about coping with uncertainty so exceptionally well that we are naturally guided to the next thing, because we trust the timing of our own life.
